Let's turn this idea into reality - Join our team!

After being a buddy for exchange students in Bern we discovered that there is a lack of information about Switzerland and Bern (Transport, insurance, hiking, events...). General information is spread over websites and brochures, experiences from former students aren’t kept and a lot of Swiss sites aren’t translated.

We want to make your life easier!  But first, we need your help.

We want to combine all the information and your own experiences on an interactive site called studybern.ch. There you can inform yourself and share your amazing experiences with other students. But first, we need your ideas.  We will award three lucky guys with a package full of the finest Swiss chocolate (free shipping). Just scroll down and leave your ideas, experiences, and recommendations as a comment. You can double up your chances to win a prize when you share this blog on Facebook.

  • If you’re a student on exchange in Bern: Tell us what piece of information you were or you are still missing.
  • If you’re a former exchange student around the world: Tell us what you were missing or what kind of information made your stay better.
  • If you are from Bern: Tell us your secret recommendation for the international people in Bern.

  4. If you are looking for a beautiful view, take your time and „climb“ the Chutzenturm in Frienisberg. It’s a viewing tower with a high of 45m from where you can admire a beautiful 360° panorama.

  6. A nice day trip is to hike the niesen (near Thun) in the morning and kayaking in the afternoon from Spiez (Thunersee) to a outside fireplace and having a nice evening there.

  7. I tried several times to buy a SBB "Sparbillette", but I could't make it. Luckily a swiss friend bought them for me.

  9. I was an exchange student in Spain, Mexico and Sweden :). I was missing an easy to use website allowing Q&A with former students, for real! First of all, before going, I missed recommandations about where to live (the best location not far from the School and from clubs, bars, restaurants, sport facilities, etc...). Then I missed recommandations about the greatest places in the cities and the cheapest ones (where is my kebab? Is there any place to grab a bear less than 8 euros?). I wanted to be prepared for my future exchange but I couldn't do it easily so I didn't do it. I would also liked to see the best views, photos, of the environment around...

    2. The first picture is Oeschinensee. You can reach it by train from Bern to Kandersteg and there you can take a 1h walk or a gondola to the lake.

The second one is in the canton of Fribourg, called Schwarzsee. You can reach it by train from Bern to Fribourg and then you can take the bus to Schwarzsee. There you have several possibilities to enjoy your day (hiking, swimming in the lake, sledding or driving down the mountain by scooter).

  11. - some recommendations for (cheap) activities would be great! u know where I get the (rather) cheap recommendations from in Switzerland? From Singapureans - just imagine! :)
    - yes, probably a guide book (digital) would be nice ... a mean many international hostels have many good suggestions! -> so either go there or this blog can be a first initiative.
What I like best about Switzerland as an exchange student:
    - swimming in the Aare, soooo many lakes in Switzerland - unbelievable and sooo great!! U don't see so many clean lakes in other countries of the world!!
    - what u should definitely try and eat: Raclette and fondue - it give u some kind of Swiss feeling!:)
